Hello My Name Is

To start out, I'd like to warn my already beloved readers that arson, while hilarious, is something that is extremely antisocial to blog about. So, unless you want to make friends with most of mainstream society, it is an extremely fun thing to do.

Unfortunately, actually committing arson is something that should not be tried unless absolutely necessary, but I came close to trying to set my computer on fire today, due to Photoshop's ineffectiveness at basically everything.
Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 to be precise.

I hate when programs do something that you never told it to do. As a computer n00b, I understand that I will sometimes give my computer commands that I did not intend to, but I swear I know this program in and out, and I never told it to set the brush tool at half-opacity. Nothing in the settings is telling it to do so. And 7.0 is so outdated, I doubt I'll find much help anywhere. So every time I try to draw something, I can barely make out the line it gives me. And I don't. Know. Why.

Anyway, for all the people familiar with Photoshop, you'll probably notice I inked these and scanned them in, which sucks.
Like, my scanner sucks.
Like, if you want it to be viewed on a computer, use a computer.
Like, keyboard smash.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about and wish I'd just shut up, there is a reason this art looks so bad, I promise.

This blog thing is not coming off to a good start.

I apologize for everything ever.

  1. I can relate to this. I had to re-scan my drawing several times before it was legible on the screen, and Flash crashed three times when I tried to make a simple triangle animate into a square. Why can't things just do what you want them to, the first time you ask? :S

  2. I like your first post Ruth! As usual, awesome drawings. I also get very mad at computers which refuse to do what I want them to. Printers are also my worst enemy, especially the ones at Uni who never work when I need them to. I like how you somehow connect this to arson by saying you wanted to set your laptop on fire. If they weren't so darned expensive I would burn through many a technology object. Printers can go die.

This blog is just so sarcastic and humorous (especially the zombie program picture). Totally fitting of your personality. I love it.

  3. So much love! Is that Chubacca concentrating on her art there? Either way it's adorable, as is the zombie program. Gorgeous. So jealous of your wonderful creativeness. The color of the paper is great as well. What markers are you using?

And as a fellow Photoshop Elements (8, but no difference) user, I feel your pain. I send angry illegible crash reports to Adobe way too often. But still, it makes much more sense to me than any other art program, SO sticking with it for now.

    1. I was using my new art pens which are awesome and amazing and gorgeous -dreamy sigh-. Yeah, that's Ms. Chu, I needed an extra character, and I didn't feel like designing a new one. ^.^

  4. I must admit your blog title frightened me a little (ok, a lot), but I was immediately intrigued and had to read it. Your first post is so quirky and original, I especially love the original artwork!

  5. I love the artwork! Then, again I know nothing about art so it could be completely crappy and I would have no idea. Anyway... You say that 'actually committing arson is something that should not be tried unless absolutely necessary.' So, what about murder? Even though I thought that all your ideas were great, I'm excited that you chose this one and I think it will be really interesting!

  6. I love the drawings, too, and I think they look great. But I have zero photoshop skills. (I do, however, have years of cut-and-paste flyer-making experience, and I like to think I can put together a mean graphic, albeit using ancient tools like photocopy, scissors, and tape).

This blog is very promising and I look forward to reading more. Two things: 1. Make the next post a little more developed. 2. Don't set anything on fire, at least not literally.

  7. Arson? I prefer treason.

Did you ever figure out how to restore the opacity to 100%? It might be under the settings for the color or the brush.

I like the sub-heading "Previous Felonies".

Also, on a visual note, the font you have selected for your blog has identical letters 'i' and 'I' at the small size you have set.

    1. Ugh I didn't notice, thanks for notifying me! Now I'll have to deal with blogger all over again. Do all the programs around just want to hurt me?
